Education and Experience
I am trained in psychotherapy and feminist sociology. I received my BA from Swarthmore College in 1992, my Masters in Social Work from the Smith College School for Social Work in 2000, and my Ph.D. in sociology from U.C. Berkeley in 2005.
I have over fifteen years of experience in providing individual, couples, and adolescent psychotherapy. I have provided psychotherapy services for a wide range of clients in clinics, schools, hospitals, employee assistance programs, agencies, and private practice.
My first book: Hard to Get: Twenty-Something Women and the Paradox of Sexual Freedom was published by University of California Press in March 2013. Please visit my author website to learn more about the book.

I have written on a range of topics, including teenage sexuality, feminism, bisexuality, and gender. I wrote the chapter on psychoanalytic theory in the textbook The Psychology of Gender, published by Guilford Press in 2004 and used in undergraduate and graduate psychology courses. I have taught college and graduate level courses and lectured nationally on sexuality, female psychology, and theories of gender.
